I thought they were going to be thin paper, but instead, they're heavy card stock with a shinny finish ... I've reused them several times ... even wiping with with a damp cloth without damaging them. The kids can even color on the back. Great quality and totally worth it. The kids table at my daughter's adult party looked adorable with the addition of the placemats!
